69-year-old American actor Jay Thomas dies

American actor Jay Thomas, known for his roles in television sitcoms such as "Cheers" and "Murphy Brown," has passed away at age 69, his agent, Don Buchwald, said.
Thomas, who was ill with cancer, died accompanied by his wife and children, Buchwald told the New York daily Daily News.
"Jay was unique, always had an answer and (was) full of so much joy and so many crazy thoughts and behaviors," said the agent, who represented him for 35 years.
Thomas was known primarily for giving life to Jerry Gold in the 'Murphy Brown' series for almost ten years and for his role as Eddie LeBec in the popular 'Cheers' in the late 1980s.
The actor also appeared on other television shows such as 'Mork & Mindy', 'Married People' and 'Love and War' and was for years a popular guest on shows like 'Late Night with David Letterman'.
During the last years, the comedian also presented / displayed a space of radio under the title 'The Jay Thomas Show'.
